The Ministry of Water Supply will introduce a purified water supply system using which will have lesser chlorine, silver and iron in the water.
National Water Supply Board and the Ministry had drawn attention towards a more fruitful and profitable technology for purifying water in place of the present purification process, the Ministry of Water Supply stated.
A German delegation (Trotech/Secosan) visited Sri Lanka recently and held discussions with Water Supply Ministry to introduce the new technology known as Silver Iron Technology to Sri Lanka, known as Silver Sand System.
The new technology will result in a lesser chlorine level as well as a drop in the silver and iron content in the water. Therefore, the purified water under this method would not require boiling the water before drinking.
A company, United Sri Lanka Environmental Technologies Limited (USLET) has been formed to use this technology for providing pure hygienic water to hospitals and for the benefit of all communities by collecting rain water.
The delegation also visited the North to inspect the Iranamadu water supply project which is to be launched in the near future, sources added.
