Power sets for railway from China

The Government has taken action to import 13 new power sets from China for short and long distance railway services.

These power sets will be deployed to the up country line, coastal line and Kelany Valley line, mainly to ease the rush hour congestion, quoting Sri Lanka Railways General Manager P.P. Wijesekera Daily News reported.

The 13 new power sets will arrive in the country in the first quarter of next year. ‘We plan to deploy specially designed power sets for long distance trains including upcountry service. They have been specially designed for long distance journeys with all facilities’, he added.

A team of engineers of China Southern Railway (CSR) which provide power sets to Sri Lanka have arrived in the country to discuss future arrangements and the feasibility plan including technical and environmental backgrounds of new power sets, he said.
