The Fleeing of Journalists

The latest journalists to "flee" the country confirms my belief that the number of journalists who have fled the country based on false threats to them using the special situation prevailing the country, far exceeds those who have left due to actual threats, says senior journalist, political analyst and former editor of the "Ravaya" Mr. Victor Ivan.

Writing in the "Ravaya" of April 25th, 2010, Victor Ivan states the last person to flee the country prior to this was one named Faizal who was in charge of the financial activities of the Free Media Movement. He was not a journalist.

Sunil Jayasekera, Rasika Perera and Prasanna Fonseka who left the country just prior to the traditional New Year can be considered as those who have more recently joined this queue of "escapees".

These three names were included on a website that recently referred to 28 journalists who were facing death threats. It could be said this list has been cunningly and mischievously prepared states Victor Ivan.
