Over 1000 IDPs resettled today

 

1350 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Menik Farm relief village are being resettled in Kandaweli, Kilinochchi today (29 April).

Another 750 IDPs who have been re-united with their relatives will be resettled in Muliyaveli West tomorrow. In addition, 170 IDPs in Palampasi living with relatives will also be resettled tomorrow, stated Colonel Vadugodapitiya, Chief Co-ordinating Officer of the Competent Office for the IDPs.

He further said that there are only 74,875 IDPs remaining in Menik Farm.

In its latest release yesterday (28 April), United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that 205,983 IDPs have been released and returned to Vavuniya, Mannar, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara, Polonnaruwa and Kandy, as at 15 April 2010.
