Defence Secretary in North

 
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa toured the Jaffna peninsula yesterday to evaluate the post-war security concerns and other related developments in the region.

Mr. Rajapaksa took part in a series of important projects and interactive discussions with the security forces and the police.

According to defence sources, discussions centered largely on post-war concerns, resettlement, de-mining, civil administration, progress on rehabilitation of former LTTE combatants and promotion of civil-military relations.

The Defence Secretary declared opened the renovated dockyard at the Kankasanthurai harbour which had been abandoned for more than two decades.

At the visit the Secretary declared a War Heroes week from May 12- 18 and War Heroes Day celebrations on May 20th.
