Pipe born water to N & E

The Ministry of Water Supply and Drainage has taken steps to resolve the drinking water problem in the North and East.

Under this programme, the Ministry is planning to introduce pipe born water to the Jaffna Peninsula by bringing water from Iranamadu Tank in Kilinochchi.

Accordingly, a water treatment plan at Iranamadu in Kilinochchi is destined to be implemented. The treated water will be brought through pipes and stored in overhead tanks in several locations in Jaffna peninsula to be distributed to different areas.

The Ministry will implement a scheme to collect rain water in the peninsula as well. The rain water will then be treated before use, like the common practice in some parts of the world.
