The United States Embassy in Colombo has welcomed the pardon of convicted journalist Tissainayagam.

The Embassy said that the United States welcomes the decision of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to pardon convicted journalist J. S. Tissainayagam.

It said further that it was fitting that the announcement came on World Press Freedom Day, which celebrates the vital role a free media
plays in every democracy.
