The Pro-Poor Economic Advancement and Community Enhancement Project worth Rs.1, 550.00mn (PEACE) funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) carried out by the Ministry of Nation Building is to be completed this year.

The objectives of this project are achieving sustainable development of regional agriculture, improving family income of the community and improving socio–economic status in 37 villages in Trincomalee, Ampara, Vavuniya, Batticaloa, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu and Mannar Districts.

Nine irrigation schemes such as Morawewa and Kurangupanchan in Trincomalee, Pulugunavi in Batticaloa, Borapola in Borapola, Mamaduwa and Nampankulam in Vavuniya, Akathimurippu, Thenniyankulam and Thadchchinamaruthamadu in Mannar are being reconstructed under this project.
