SL peacekeeping forces to Haiti

 

The tenth contingent of SLAF troops are scheduled to be deployed in Haiti.

They completed their training at the United Nations Peace Keeping Operations (UNPKO) Training Center of Sri Lanka Army in Kukuleganga on the 11th of May 2010. These SLAF personnel who belong to all trades will be deployed along with the SL Army and Navy personnel under the UN banner, Sri Lanka Air Force stated.

They were trained in Traffic Control Operations, Civil Disorder Management, Disarmament/ Demobilization and Reintegration/ Cordon and Search Operations, Convoy operations/ Patrolling and Improvised Explosive Device Detection and Defusing.

They were also educated about the United Nations its mandate, the Rules of engagement, present situation in Haiti, cultural differences, International Humanitarian Law and Human Resources Management, HIV/AIDS, Sexual Exploitation, UN Log system, UN provost duties, experienced in Haiti, Creyol language and stress management etc.

Squadron Leader ADR Liyanarachchi Commands the SLAF contingent whilst, Squadron Leader RND Senadeera and forty eight Other Ranks comprise the rest of the SLAF contingent, SLAF said.
