Number of IDPs further reduced

 

As of today (19 May) only 62 810 IDPs are remaining in Menik Farm relief village, according to the Chief Co-ordinating Officer of the Competent Office for the IDPs. Out of them, 29,038 IDPs are outside the centers using the Government granted free movement.

The Government will resettle IDPs from 20th - 31st of May as follows;
20th May-1500 IDPs to Karachchi Kilinochchi
24th May-1350 IDPs to Kilinochchi
25th May-1500 IDPs to Kandaweli
27th May-1500 IDPs to Karachchi, Kilinochchi
31st May-1500 IDPs to Kandaweli

Accordingly, the number of IDPs will be reduced to 55460 in Menik Farm by 31st May.

The number of IDP centers and relief villages in Vavuniya has also reduced due to the resettlement process. Only 6 relief villages are remaining out of the initial 11 relief villages in Menik Farm.

Meanwhile, the IDP center in Mannar was closed yesterday (18 May) due to the completion of resettlement.
