Develop Mahamevna Uyana preserving historic value - President

 

President Mahinda Rajapaksa instructed officials to develop Mahamevna Uyana to be a tourist attraction while preserving its historic and sacred values.

He called for short term and long term plans for its development once initial cleaning and other preparations are completed for the forthcoming Poson festival. The President added that a sound coordinating mechanism between officials of various government bodies should be in place for the general maintenance of the area.

President Rajapaksa made these statements at a meeting with relevant Ministers, senior officials and Buddhist clergy today (31 May) at Temple Trees.

The Uruma Aruna programme initiated under the Mahinda Chintana is currently carrying out develop work of historic and sacred places around the country. The Civil Defence Force is assisting these programmes. At present, 20 projects have been identified for development.
