Rs. 375 billion for road development this year

 

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed that Rs. 375 billion be spent on road development this year. Around 4,000 bridges have been constructed and a sum of Rs. 87 billion set apart for road development last year.

Under the ‘Maga Neguma’ scheme, about 360km of roads in rural areas have being completed. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has granted Rs. 29.6 billion for road development activities in Sri Lanka

These details were discussed at a meeting held at Temple Trees recently with the Ministry of Highways, Road Development Authority (RDA) and other officials.

The President also discussed about the Yangalmoda and Nugegoda fly-overs at this meeting and directed the Road Development Authority (RDA) to provide facilities at the Nugegoda Flyover for pedestrians, particularly for school children.
