Tourism income to be more than double by 2015

Sri Lanka expects to more than double its tourism income by 2015 as most of the countries have relaxed their travel advisories to Sri Lanka following the conclusion of LTTE terrorism.
At present Sri Lanka earns 400 million U.S dollars annually from tourism and by 2015 the target income is 1000 million US dollors.
Around 500,000 tourists are visiting the island annually and the government expects to increase it up to 2. 5million.
Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Laskman Yapa Abeywardena made these statements at a press briefing recently.
With the end to war against terrorism most European countries as well as the United States have relaxed their travel advisories to Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka will launch a new programme - ‘Travel Sri Lanka’, soon to promote the country around the world. At present many local and international programmes are carried out to promote tourism in Sri Lanka.
Tourist arrivals increased by 50 percent in the first quarter of 2010 as a result of the peaceful situation.
