More Japanese assistance to IDPs

The Government of Japan recently decided to extend a financial contribution of 100 million Japanese Yen (approximately 1.1 million US dollars) through the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees in Sri Lanka.

Japan has contributed a sum of approximately 40 million US dollars since 2009 to support humanitarian activities of the Government directly or through international agencies, local and international NGOs.

The Embassy of Japan will continue its proactive support for the recovery and development of Sri Lanka in cooperation with the Government of Sri Lanka as well as the international community, stated the Embassy of Japan in a press release.
