Sri Lanka is well poised and well positioned to be one of the most sought after tourist destinations, not only in the region, but also globally, said Ogilvy & Mather, a reputed international advertising, marketing and public relations agency.
Ogilvy & Mather based in Manhattan, USA is owned by the WPP Group- the world's largest communications services group in terms of revenue. The company operates 497 offices in 125 countries.
Sri Lanka should target high-end tourists and not go for low cost markets as it has such a unique product worth paying for and need not be a bucket shop destination, stated Miles Young, CEO of Ogilvy & Mather.
Referring to places of tourist attractions in Sri Lanka, Young said that the East coast is well preserved while the wetlands and mangroves would be a great attraction. He added that such places in the West coast should be preserved from disappearing. Young also stressed that the country should not attract the same type of tourists that visit other Asian destinations, Media Centre for National Development of Sri Lanka reported.
Young also pointed out that there are opportunities for niche markets in tourism with eco, religious, adventure, sports, etc with the dawn of peace in the country and opening of the North and the East. He said that Sri Lanka has a myriad of corporate brands which meet international standards and Sri Lanka needs to be well projected globally by synergizing her core strengths.
Young expressed confidence that the country would witness an economic boom in the coming years, as Sri Lanka has a very secure investment environment with permanent peace and stability in the country and what is now needed is for Sri Lanka to develop a global brand for itself.
