Tourist arrivals up in May

 

The number of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka went up 42.3 percent in May 2010, compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. According to figures released by Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority 35,213 tourists arrived to the country in May.

The figures showed an increase in the number of arrivals from North America, Middle East, South Asia, Western Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Australasia.

Arrivals from North America rose 67.4 percent (2,609). Visitors from Middle East 64.1 percent (1,342), travelers from South Asia rose 60.1 percent (13,734) and the number of visitors from Latin America and the Caribbean rose 30.8 (34).

The increase is due to improved security in the country.
