House-boats to promote tourism

The CeyNor Foundation is to build house-boats and other varieties of boats for use by fishermen and tourism operators.

The Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Mr. Rajitha Senaratne said that the house-boats had been created by using traditional methods and the inmates would find them extremely comfortable. The length of a boat is 36 feet and the width is 18 feet. The boats had been created by using fibre glass and the cost of a boat will be around Rs.6 million and could be sailed on lagoons, rivers and Wewas.

Mr. Senaratne said plans have also been formulated to promote tourism by the introduction of these house-boats to tourists because the Ministry was positive that the house-boats project would be able to attract more tourists and would be expanded island-wide.
