The Government yesterday warned to taken stern legal action against the errant traders who do not publicly display the prices of their merchandise.
Minister of Co-operative affairs and internal trade Johnston Fernando said he has instructed the Consumer Affairs Authority to take legal action against those traders.
According to the Consumer Affairs act traders are required to display the maximum retail prices or the stock price of merchandise they sell.
However inspections carried out by the Consumer Protection Authority recently have revealed that some traders do not adhere to this requirement, the Minister said.
A special investigation team has been assigned to look into this matter under the supervision of the Chairman of Consumer Affairs Authority Rumi Marzook, Minister Fernando said.
