Chinese Vice Premier arrives in Sri Lanka

 

The Vice Premier of the Chinese State Council Zhang Dejiang arrived in Colombo last night on a three-day official visit.

During his stay in Colombo the Chinese Vice Premier is scheduled to meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Acting Minister of External Affairs Githanjana Gunawardena and other senior political leaders.

The Chinese government is providing financial assistance for the construction of the country's second airport in Hambantota. Among the other major development projects underway with Chinese assistance are the Colombo-Katunayake expressway project, Norochcholai Power Plant, Hambantota Port, tank farm project in Hambantota and the road infrastructure project.
