More than 20,000 people to get safe drinking water

 

The Ministry of Water Supply & Drainage has taken action to promote the Godakawela Water Supply Scheme which is to provide safe and reliable drinking water to people in the area.

The Cabinet granted approval to a memorandum submitted by Minister Dinesh Gunawardana, for the revised Total Cost Estimate of the Scheme, which amounts to a sum of Rs.288.8 million.

The Scheme is currently being implemented by the national water Supply & Drainage Board and will provide safe and reliable drinking water to approximately 22,000 people living in the Godakawela township and in the surrounding areas. The project area is situated in the Ratnapura District about 43 KM away from the Ratnapura Town.

The treatment plant proposed for the project has a capacity of 4,500 cum/ day. Rakwana Ganga is the water source for this project.
