New project to conserve Jaffna Fort

 

The National Heritage and Cultural Affairs Ministry will implement a Rs.104 million conservation program to protect the Dutch Fort in Jaffna under the Netherlands co-operation program.

The Ministry opened an Archaeological Department branch office in Jaffna and has appointed a conservation officer for the Jaffna office, reported Daily News.

The Archaeological Department will conduct a conservation program under the direction of the Jaffna branch office.

The Ministry expects to complete the Jaffna Fort wall by November 2012. The reconstruction commenced on November 15, 2009.
