Positive signals are coming from Sri Lanka on finding an amicable and acceptable solution to the issues of Tamils, Indian Union Home Minister P. Chithambaram said.
The Hindu quoted the Minister saying that with the end of the war there are indications of settling the long-pending demands of the Tamils.
He said that successive governments since the beginning of the conflict have taken the position that the issue should be resolved without affecting the unity and integrity of Sri Lanka.
"The Sri Lankan government can make provision in the Constitution and provide equal rights for Tamils. This is the same line, we hope, on which the Sri Lankan issue will be permanently resolved now," The Indian Minister had said.
He also said that the LTTE issue was not only affecting Sri Lanka but also India as the terror outfit assassinated former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
