More ex-LTTE cadres receive jobs

Another 400 rehabilitated female LTTE cadres received employment at a garment factory yesterday [21 June].

300 of which completed their rehabilitation at the Weppamkulam Center and the rest at the Poonthottam Centre in Vavuniya. They received employment at the Tri-Star Apparel Factory in Alawwa.

The former women fighters had surrendered to the security forces during the final stage of the operation.

The Sri Lankan government established 15 rehabilitation centers for nearly 12,000 ex-combatants who surrendered to the security forces. According to the authorities the government had so far released nearly half of them following rehabilitation, enabling the government to close seven of the 15 centers.

The government staged a mass wedding ceremony recently to marry 53 couples of former militants.
