Top level talks on Ukraine-Sri Lanka bilateral cooperation

 

President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the President Victor Yanukovich have reached broad agreements on expanding relations in several areas including oil exploration, trade and education.

The two Presidents held discussions at the Ukrainian Administrative Headquarters in Kiev. The hour long discussion was described as extremely cordial.

President Rajapaksa and President Yanukovich discussed the strengthening of socio- economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

They also focused on establishing a Joint Trade Commission to promote ties in the trade sector. They also agreed to explore the possibility of increasing Sri Lankan exports to Ukraine that include tea and porcelain products and Sri Lankan imports from Ukraine such as Urea fertilizer and rolled iron.

The two leaders also expressed interest in expanding tourism and the possibility of opening direct air links by Sri Lankan and Ukraine airlines. They further discussed the steps necessary for early implementation of the four bilateral agreements signed between the two countries.
