Sri Lankan teas fetched the world's highest average price of $3.34 a kg at the Colombo auctions in the first four months of the current calendar, posting 26-per cent increase over the corresponding period last year. An analysis of the latest information available with the Tea Board and the various auction centres reveals that Kenyan teas fetched the second highest price average of $2.80 at Mombassa auctions, up by 29.63 per cent. Bangladesh teas posted an average of $2.30 at Chittagong auctions, 34.50 per cent more than last year.
Indian teas came next with an average price of $1.91, up by 12.35 per cent. North Indian teas fetched $2.08 (up 17.51 per cent) while South Indian teas, $1.60 (1.91 per cent). Indonesian teas averaged $1.87 at Jakarta auctions, up by 18.34 per cent. Malawi teas averaged $1.68 at Limbe, up by 13.96 per cent.
