Cricket legend announces retirement

 

Muttiah Muralitharan, the leading wicket-taker in Tests and ODIs, will retire from Test cricket after the first Test against India in Galle, which begins on July 18.

"World's leading wicket-taker and champion spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has decided to retire from Test cricket after the first Test in Galle against India," a statement by Sri Lanka Cricket said.

Murali, is the most successful bowler in history with a record 792 Test wickets and 515 one-day international wickets.

Muralitharan was a member of Sri Lanka's World Cup winning team in 1996. He has played 132 Tests, 337 ODIs and 11 Twenty-Twenty matches.
