New houses for war heroes

 

President Mahinda Rajapaksa handed over the keys of 25 houses yesterday (July 11) in Senarathgama, Kandy built under the first phase of the programme of the construction of 700 houses for war heroes under the 'Api Wenuwen Api' concept.

President handed over the keys of the first house to the widow and child of sergeant Karunawansha who scarified his life in the final battle in Puddumathalan. Later, President donated the other 24 houses to respective beneficiaries symbolically by handing over the keys.

The beneficiaries were the war heroes who were killed in combat and become disabled. The project has been completed with the contribution of labor by the members of the Security Forces. The Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defense made the financial contribution and supervised the implementation of the project.

Defense Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa was also present at the ceremony. The housing project is nearing completion under the able guidance and close supervision of the Defense Secretary.
