The Economic Development Ministry is nearing the completion of 556 Gama Neguma projects for 2010 in the Anuradhapura district.

Another 378 development projects in the same district are also proceeding under the direction of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa. The Ministry has allocated Rs.203million for this purpose.

Anuradhapura district has 702 Grama Niladari Divisions. Gama Neguma development programme is carried out in 573 of those Grama Niladari Divisions. The Sri Lanka Samurdhi Authority is carrying out a project for 3060 villages in the rest of the Grama Niladhari Divisions.

Gama Neguma has also initiated drinking water projects to meet the needs of the people in the area who suffered from the lack of water.

In addition, projects are afoot to concrete rural roads, construct bridges and build public halls and Jana Sabha offices.

The Ministry will also take action to supply power to the area.
