SriLankan Airlines will increase frequencies and capacity to existing destinations, stated Manoj Gunawardena, Chief Executive Officer of the SriLankan Airlines in an article to the Internal News Magazine of SriLankan Airlines.
In July, SriLankan Airlines will acquire a new Airbus, A330 which will introduce a new dimension in luxury with lie flat seats in Business Class cabins on long-haul fleet, he further said.
"In six months' time, there'll be a new building in front of Flight Operations, housing a state-of-the-art A320 full Flight Simulator, operated in partnership with SIM Industries of The Netherlands, certified to the highest international standard," he added.
A few months later, SriLankan Airlines hope to have groups of foreign pilots from South Asia, and perhaps even other parts of Asia and the Middle East, using new facility. “That's in addition to our airlines own cadet pilots and pilots. So we'll be reducing our own pilot training coasts, while at the same time earning significant amount of revenue," the CEO said.
"This is yet another investment in the future. Our future. In fact, this is the start of a string of investments that we will make in the next two years", Mr. Manoj Gunawardena stated.
Through the economic downturn over the last two years, SriLankan Airlines maintained the reputation.
SriLankan Airlines new Five-Year-Plan envisages adding many more aircraft in the next few years. The acquisition of two more narrow-body aircraft this winter is a possibility, the CEO said.
SriLankan Airlines also is to restart Air Taxi domestic service, which has a distinct market. Starting this December, this service will be launched to at least a dozen domestic points.
Recently the International Air Transport Association (IATA) presented SriLankan Airlines with a Platinum Award for implementing the 2D Bar Coded Boarding Pass (BCBP) programme in all on-line stations far ahead of time.
IATA has made it mandatory for all airlines to implement 2D BCBP by the end of 2010, replacing the old magnetic strips on boarding passes. SriLankan IT System with the full support of the Service Delivery achieved this feat a full seven months ahead of time. All 29 on-line stations in SriLankan's route network across Europe, the Middle East, South Asia, and the Far East, have been enabled, with Abu Dhabi being the final one on 25th May.
SriLankan Airlines has also been ranked the fourth Most Valuable Brand in Sri Lanka by the global brand evaluation firm Brand Finance. SriLankan had the distinction of being rated 'AAA' or 'Extremely Strong', one of just five companies with this highest rating of the 100 companies that were evaluated.
