Upper Kotmale
power project to be completed soon |

Construction of the Upper Kothmale Hydro power plant, Sri Lanka’s major power plant has been expedited and will be completed by the end of this year.
This project is expected to add 150 megawatts to the national grid annually and help meet the future electricity demand of the country.
At present more than 72% of this project has been completed. Construction of the main dam and the tunnel from the main dam to Kotmale Niyam Gama sluice gates has been completed.
The Government has taken steps to provide water and electricity to 495 families resettled in Thalawakale under the first phase of the project.
The total estimated cost of the project is $ 350 million.
