IDPs reduced from 300,000 to 36,110

 

The total number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) remaining in welfare centres in the North of Sri Lanka, has dropped to 36,110 as of today (July 22).

This includes 1000 IDPs being resettled in Kilinochchi today.

Out of those remaining, 15,749 IDPs have currently moved out of welfare centres using the passes and are due to return on the dates specified by them.

Accordingly, there are approximately 12,000 IDPs in the Menik Farm relief village at present, stated the Chief Coordinating Officer of the Competent Office for IDPs in Vavuniya, Colonel Vadugodapitiya.

Arrangements have been made to resettle another 500 IDPs in Kilinochchi on the 26th of this month and 600 IDPs in Pachchilaipalli in Kilinochchi on 5th August, he said.
