Vietnam to re-open SL embassy soon

Vietnam will re-open its resident diplomatic mission in Colombo early 2011.

This was expressed during a meeting between the visiting Deputy Minister of External Affairs Githanjana Gunawardene and Vietnam Deputy Foreign Minister Dao Trung.

Minister Gitanjana Gunawardena led a delegation to the Association of South East Asian Nations Regional Form, a grouping of 27 countries which co-operate on regional security issues.

He further stated that the Ministry of External Affairs of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam should consider signing an agreement on Dialogue and Cooperation on Political and Policy matters, to update regular overview of the cooperation between the two Ministries to further strengthen the existing cordial relations.

While appreciating the decision of the Government of Vietnam to reopen the diplomatic Mission, Minister Gunawardena recalled that Sri Lanka and Vietnam are marking the 40th Anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2010 and the re-establishment of a Resident Mission in Colombo would undoubtedly help enhance relations between the two countries.
