Tea production increased   

 

Sri Lanka produced 166.9 million kilos of tea in the first six months of 2010 which is an increase by 27.8 percent compared to the first six months of 2009, according to Sri Lanka Tea Board statistics.

Only 132, 249, 170 kilos of tea was produced in the first six months last year.

In the month of June this year, tea production reached 29.5 million kilos compared to 24.9 million kilos in June a year ago.

There has been a significant increase of tea production, marketing and exportation in the first quarter of 2010 compared to last year as the Government has taken many measures to develop the tea industry in the country.
