CSE world's 2nd best performing stock market
Crosses 5000 mark

 

For the first time in history, the All Share Price Index of the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) closed above the 5,000 mark today (28 July). The CSE is currently ranked the 2nd best performing stock market in the world for the year 2010, CSE said.

The All Share Price Index closed at 5,138.93, gaining 139.8 points (2.8%) during intra-day trading while the Milanka index gained 159.5 points (2.8%) to close at 5,828.73 also recording the highest level in history.

The total turnover recorded during the day was Rs. 3.2 billion.

The market capitalization at the end of trading today of Rs. 1.68 trillion is the highest market capitalization recorded in the history of the CSE.

The CSE was named the second best performing Stock Exchange globally for the year 2009.
