Peliyagoda fish market to be opened

The construction work of the Peliyagoda Fish Market complex has been completed.

The total cost of the project amounts to Rs.1700 million. The Asian Development Bank has provided Rs.675 million and the balance Rs.1, 025mn is provided by the Government.

The complex has facilities to sell 500 tons of fish per day. It consists Vendor Stalls, Cold Room facilities and car parking areas. It would also cater to about 3,000 to 5,000 people a day.

The Government planned to construct this market complex to ease the heavy traffic congestion around the St. John’s Fish Market and make it a place where the vendors could sell fish without any hassle.

The construction work of the complex commenced in 2007 and this is to be declared open soon.
