Japan assures
continuous support |

Minister of External Affairs, Professor G.L. Peiris, and Minister of Economic Development, Basil Rajapaksa, were received in Tokyo by Ambassador Yasushi Akashi, representative of the Government of Japan on Peace Building, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sri Lanka, who assured continuous support for Sri Lanka’s post-conflict reconstruction.
The Ministers explained the current developments in Sri Lanka with regard to the resettlement of internally displaced persons, the rebuilding of infrastructure and the restoration of livelihoods, the repeal of Emergency Regulations with the return of normalcy to the country, the appointment by President Mahinda Rajapaksa of the Commission on Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation, the discussions between the Government and other political parties, and initiatives directed towards constitutional reform.
Ministers G.L. Peiris and Basil Rajapaksa also held detailed discussions with Mr. Yutaka Banno, Member of the House of Representatives, and members of the ruling party, the Democratic Party of Japan at the Head Office of the Party, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tokyo stated in a press release.
