The State Government of Tamilnadu has released fifteen Sri Lankan fishermen who were detained by the Indian Coastal Guard Force on July 27.
The fishermen were released after acceding to a request made by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Sri Lanka. The fishermen will arrive in the country in few days time.
The Tamilnadu Government has taken steps to hand over another four fishing trawlers and 21 fishermen to Sri Lanka, out of a toptal of eight trawlers and 42 fishermen held by them. The second batch will be released on 11th of this month, officials of the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner's office in Chennai said.
Steps have been taken to bring the rest of the fishermen and trawlers to the country as soon as they would get the permission to travel to Sri Lanka, the Ministry said.
