The number of tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka went up 50 percent to 63,339 in July 2010, compared to the corresponding period in the previous year, according to figures released by Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.
In July 2009 only 42,223 tourists arrived in Sri Lanka.
The tourism office figures showed an increase in the number of arrivals from Western Europe, South Asia, East Asia, Middle East and North America.
Tourists from North America rose 75.6 percent to 4,688 last month. Arrivals from Western Europe, the traditional tourist generating market, rose 72.2 percent to 28,738. Arrivals from Eastern Europe went up 40.2 percent to 1,694.
Arrivals from the Middle East went up 68.1 percent to 6,975.
Visitors from South Asia rose 14.9 percent to 12,736, travelers from East Asia rose 23.2 percent to 5,219 and the number of visitors from North America rose 75.6 to 4,688.
Arrivals from Australasia went up 50.2 percent to 3,034 and from East Asia up by 23.2 percent to 5,219.
