The second day of the Kumbal Perahera will be held tonight in Kandy. The first Kumbal Perahera of the historic Esala Perahera paraded the streets of Kandy last night (August 15).
The Perahera passed through Dalada Veediya, D S Senanayake Veediya, Deva Veediya, Colombo Street, Yatinuwara Veediya and return to the Maligawa along Raja Veediya.
The Kumbal Perahera will continue daily till August 19.
The first Randoli Perahera will begin on August 20 and continue daily and the final Randoli Perahera will be held on the night of August 24.
The procession will include the water cutting ceremony at the Getambe ferry and the Day Perahera on August 25.
The Perahera began with the planting of the 'Kapa' (sanctified log) at the Devales dedicated to the four guardian gods; Natha, Vishnu, Kataragama and goddess Pattini. It was followed by the Devale Peraheras and the Kumbal Perahera.
