The SriLankan Airlines is to obtain two more aircrafts this year to cater to the country’s rapidly-growing tourism industry, and thereby increase its worldwide flights.
It plans to increase its flights to Paris, Frankfurt, Milan, Rome, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Karachi and many other cities in India.
The airline has obtained one wide-bodied Airbus A330-220 last month, and will acquire two A320s shortly. It launched its new service to China’s largest city Shanghai last month. This flight to Shanghai operates via Bangkok 4 days a week.
With the launch of the four weekly flights, SriLankan now serves three cities in China – the others being Beijing and Hong Kong – with a total of 10 services, including seven to mainland China.
SriLankan’s global route network spans to 49 cities in 31 countries, and currently operates nearly 150 flights per week from Colombo. July to August had been a remarkable period for SriLankan Airlines during which it was able to bag several prestigious awards including Gold Award for energy efficiency, the Best South Asian Airline award and the award for Top Airline.
