LTTE sympathisers sentenced in India

The District Court in Tambaram on Tuesday convicted six LTTE sympathisers and sentenced them to one year imprisonment in a case registered against them by the Q Branch police in 2007.

The Q Branch personnel arrested five LTTE sympathisers, Thambianna, Senjames, Jayakumar, Pushpadanraj, Bominathan and Ravikumar, for trying to smuggle out a boat to Sri Lanka allegedly to be used by LTTE remnants.

Q Branch officials alleged that the accused connived and purchased a boat from the south of Tamil Nadu and were trying to smuggle it to Sri Lanka from Ramnad.

Indian Police said Senjames and the others purchased the boat on the direction of Thambianna. Police arrested them from Chennai in 2007 and had seized Rs 4.5 lakh from them, Times of India reported.

District Court Judge Sivakumar held all the six accused guilty and sentenced them to one year’s imprisonment.
