Kumbal Perahera ends today

Randoli tomorrow

The series of Kumbal Perahera of the Sri Dalada Maligawa Esala festival, will end today after parading for the fifth day tonight (Aug 19).

Throughout the five days, the Kumbal Perahera drew a large crowd including foreigners and a large number of children. Over 250,000 people were present to view the first day of the Kumbal Perahera which had a longer route than in previous years.

The Kandy Municipal Council provided drinking water to the public who arrived to view the Perahera while other voluntary organizations provided first aid.

There was also a special Bus service by the CTB and private coach operators to provide transportation to the crowds.

The Kumbal Perahera symbolizes the earth and water, hopeful of rains at the necessary period to bring prosperity to the country.
The Randoli Perahera will commence tomorrow.
