LLRC has important role in post-conflict accountability process
– UK FCO

The Deputy Head of the South Asia Group (SAG) from the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), Will Middleton, emphasised that the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission has the potential to play an important role in the post-conflict accountability process as well as in contributing to national reconciliation.

He made this statement during his three-day visit to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Middleton also reviewed the progress towards resettling displaced civilians and the clearing of areas in the North and East of the country to make them safe for return, the British High Commission said in a press release.

Middleton also familiarised himself with the government’s proposals for constitutional reform.

During his visit, he met with government and other officials, members of diplomatic missions, humanitarian and human rights organisations, local project partners of the Conflict Prevention Pool (CPP) of the UK government and media personnel.
