Expert assistance to restore Sigiriya frescoes
- President

 

Following reports of the alleged discolouring of Sigiriya frescoes, President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited Sigirya today (23) for an inspection tour.

The President instructed officials of the Ministry of National Heritage and Cultural Affairs to get the assistance of experts and professionals in restoring the frescoes to its original state.

The President pointed out that Sigiriya is a national heritage and that it is a responsibility of all to preserve it for the future generation. He also stated that the Ministry of National Heritage and Cultural Affairs as well as the Department of Archaeology have a great responsibility in this regard.

President Rajapaksa also stated that facilities need to be open for tourists in Sigiriya while preserving its historical significance.

The President was accompanied by Minister of National Heritage and Cultural Affairs, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Chief Minister of Central Province, Sarath Ekanayake and Secretary to the President, Lalith Weeratunga.
