The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) which commenced operations on 28 August 1950, will be celebrating its 60th year of establishment in 2010.

The Diamond Jubilee year marks a momentous milestone in the history of the Central Bank in terms of achieving its focused objectives while contributing to the prosperity of the country.

In recognition of these achievements, a series of events has been organized. Some of the highlights will be a series of orations by eminent speakers, a commemorative stamp and a first day cover, a commemorative coin and a new series of currency notes, a coffee table book and a number of other publications.

The Central Bank will also conduct an international research conference and a SEACEN Governors’ Conference to coincide with the celebrations. Several Buddhist, Christian, Hindu and Islam religious ceremonies will be held, while the staff will set free 60 cows from slaughter houses. Sports events, educational quiz and cultural programmes and various regional commemorative events will also be conducted.
