TN releases 10 more fishermen

 

The State Government of Tamil Nadu has released another ten Sri Lankan fishermen who were detained by the Indian Coastal Guard Force today (Aug. 26). The fishermen were released after acceding to a request made by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Sri Lanka.

The fishermen and two trawlers were handed over to Sri Lanka Navy by Tamil Nadu authorities in Kalpitiya coast.

The Tamil Nadu Government earlier released 42 fishermen and 9 trawlers. The total number of fishermen released by Tamil Nadu has reached 67 up to date.

Steps will be taken to release the rest of fishermen who are detained by Tamil Nadu authorities, said Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Sri Lanka, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.
