Govt develops Jaffna uni

 

Several programmes, supervised by the Higher Education Ministry are afoot to develop the Jaffna University under the Government’s plans to upgrade the education system in the Northern Province.

The foundation brick was laid on 29th August to a building complex for the Health Faculty in the university. A hostel for the Medical Faculty was also opened. Action has been taken to develop the Kaiththandi Siddhayurveda Institue into a faculty and land will be bought to construct a building which has five floors for the faculty.

A new theater hall will be built for the Urumpirai Ramanadan Lalitha Kala Institute and lecturers for Western, Bharatha and Sabaragamu sectors will be recruited.

The Minister of Higher Education, S. B. Dissanayake who visited the Jaffna University on August 29 and 30 said an Engineering Faculty and an Agriculture Faculty will be established in the Jaffna University in the future with the assistance of Indian Government.
