The government has launched a US$ 173 million road reconstruction project to establish more connectivity between the Northern Province and the South.

The ADB will provide financial assistance amounting to US$ 154.4 million for the implementation of this Project. The Government will contribute US$ 18.6 million of the total amount.

This will reconstruct around 170 km of national highways: 108km in Northern Province and 62 km in the North Central Province. Rehabilitation of about 140km of provincial roads, reconstruction of selected bridges in the Northern Province and the improvement of the office of the Northern Provincial Road Development Department will also be done under this project.

The project is scheduled to be completed by 2015.
