IDPs drop to 28,659
Jaffna resettlement completed soon

 

The total number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Menik Farm relief village has dropped to 28,659 as of today (1 Sep), due to the Government’s speedy resettlement programme.

Only 58 IDPs remain in Jaffna and they will be resettled in a few days time completing the resettlement of Jaffna IDPs within a week, the Chief Coordinating Officer of the Competent Office for IDPs in Vavuniya, Colonel Vadugodapitiya said.

Two more batches of 700 and 200 IDPs in Menik Farm will be resettled in Kilinochchi, Pachchilaipalli on the 14th and 18th of this month respectively, the Chief Coordinating Officer said.

In addition, 3650 IDPs who were with host families will be resettled in their places of origin by the 18th of this month. Accordingly, 1200 IDPs will be resettled in Kilinochchi, Karachchi on 4th September while another 1200 IDPs will be resettled in the same area on the 11th. Another 1250 IDPs who were with host families will also be resettled in Karachchi on September 18, he said.
