Indian Army Chief in SL

 

India's Army Chief, General V. K. Singh, arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday (5) for a five-day visit in an effort to boost defence ties between India and Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya received the visiting Army Commander, Defence.lk reported.

General Singh is scheduled to meet President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Prime Minister D. M. Jayaratne, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, and External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris. He is also scheduled to visit the North.

In late 1987, the General led the war against the LTTE in "Operation Pawan" to capture Jaffna from the LTTE as part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force.
